I know how you feel. I never had many friends, either and the ones I did think were my friends just stopped being my friends. It's like I was somehow different to them, but I never actually knew why they hated me. I was verbally abused (sometimes physically) my entire school life. I eventually got home schooled (it wasn't actually because of the bullying. It was because we moved around a lot.)
I take pride in my common sense. I'm actually afraid to talk sometimes because I might say something offensive. Hehe.
Anyways, you seem like a pretty cool person regardless of your interests.
Hope you have a good day.

Sadly that is how people are raised these days. Robert Kennedy said it best...

"When you teach a man to hate and fear his brother, when you teach that he is a lesser man because of his color or his beliefs or the policies he pursues, when you teach that those who differ from you threaten your freedom or your job or your family, then you also learn to confront others not as fellow citizens but as enemies, to be met not with cooperation but with conquest; to be subjugated and mastered. We learn, at the last, to look at our brothers as aliens, men with whom we share a city, but not a community; men bound to us in common dwelling, but not in common effort. We learn to share only a common fear, only a common desire to retreat from each other, only a common impulse to meet disagreement with force. --RFK"

great post. Just a GREAT POST! yeah, it got a little foggy at times, but that comes when dealing with emotions (and pot). But you kept those emotions in such perfect balance with perspective, that the reader can't help but feel some sense of true empathy. It was honest and provocative without ever resorting to the "wahhh! poor me-isms" So well done, I wish it could be read by a larger audience.
If I may, I came away with a couple thoughts: 1. yes, most people are that stupid. Seriously. And yes, blame should go to the parents. But there is plenty more to go around. Blame should also go to the CHURCHES, the institutions and political buildings; those industries that profit off of division under the guise of creating unity. A second thought, and in my opinion a more serious point to consider, is that while people ARE as stupid as you question, I don't completely want to allow stupidity to be the reason they do the things you describe. Prejudice is more than simple stupidity in action; it's a way of life. A belief system that allows the lowest forms to embolden themselves, because no matter how bad or ignorant or criminal... at least they're not a "n****r" or a "f****t". It's climbing the social ladder by forcing others down. I don't mean to give you a lecture on prejudices, I am sure you've faced plenty. But I do want to say that I find it more repugnant that in many of these cases you describe may not be coming from stupidity alone, but from an even more sinister source.
And thanks for sharing you high school experience. That was very brave on your part. Reading it, I couldn't help but wish I had one of those Men in Black light pens and help you forget all that strife. But then I had a thought... and I was really comforted by this... while it was and will forever be painful to you, the goal of this Grant and his minions was to leave a scar that would force you down, but on the contrary if anything, it propelled you up. It's quite a testament to you. I don't know where this Grant is now, maybe he is trying to talk people into upsizing their fastfood order, although as you describe him.... he probably wound up in banking... or politics.... or the clergy- there is plenty of openings for cruel assholes in those careers. But wherever he is, his goal of subverting you failed. He failed. They all failed. You continued on, working to find and agreement between your insides and outsides. You are an inspiration, like it or not, Ms. Presley. Right now, there are young girls going through the same harassment, and they see you. It's true, you are in the "sex-industry" and not quite the role model that parents may wish for... but still. You, and others, are every day pushing that envelope of acceptance. I'm kind of serious about this. I read recently that over 75% of internet activity is porn related, so maybe it's time to realize that porn, in some way, is a reflection. A reflection of a larger Id of the American psyche(the whole Jung "Shadow and the Self" thing) It's what we all do, but still won't discuss. I have actually done test, bringing your name into a conversation (sorry I didn't ask permission).... but you may be surprised at the number of married suburban men that know your name. May have something to do with me being on your old ATL turf, but still.... interesting.
Forgive the length, I am going on and on, when all I really wanted to do was give you a "well done" It is a great entry, it shows self and social awareness that is too rare in these frenzied days. Don't know if you've ever heard of "Sexual Side Effects" they are a local ATL band, headed by a TS (I think that's the correct label, if such things are necessary) but I had a chance to speak with her the other night on this very subject (we also discussed David Bowie and T Rex for some time) but this struggle is at the forefront of her pursuit as well. It is a baffling world, and you've challenged it, and still do. It's better because of that.
Thanks for writing this... just saw that you may be coming back to Atl for a visit. Safe travels, hope our city offers some good times while you're here.

Take care, thanks again,

Hi beautiful, I'm from Brazil, yes, you have fans of Brazil :), first at all congratulations on your blog.
We must have faith that people will change. Here in my country this kind of prejudice can lead a person to jail.
I hope you come to my country someday and I know personally and closely ;)

You should go. Your presence would be a definite moral booster. Rally the troops and get your fans to march with you. If I lived in that part of the country I would attend.
